New York Photography Workshops
This site is under construction. However, some parts are working. So feel free to look around if you have a few moments. Classes for the fall and winter seasons are already scheduled. Details about spring and summer 2026 classes will roll out next January. Field trips around Rochester and in the Finger Lakes region will be coordinated with upcoming classes. Join up and turn your vision into images and your images into reality.
PHOTOGRAPH THE FOUR SEASONS
Each season, New York Photography Workshops (NYPW) offers workshops keyed to a fundamental skill for that season. The classes include an initial zoom meeting for everybody to get acquainted, followed by three in person sessions, then a field trip to practice the skills learned and finally one last class to review the photos taken and critique them. The initial zoom meeting occurs on a Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:00pm. The following four classes are on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00pm. Outdoor field trips are scheduled on a Saturday afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00pm. Indoor field trips are also on Saturdays, but from 10am to 1pm or as posted for the specific location. The price for a full month including the zoom meeting with all four classes and field trip is $195 per person. Bundle two months together for $349. Bundle three for $498 and save even more. We encourage you to sign up for a full season to get the most value from the classes offered.
Fall Series
October Classes
Learn the Basic Camera Settings for general landscape and outdoor portraits, how lens Aperture and camera Shutter Speed interact creating the exposure, and how camera ISO affects the dynamic range, noise levels and brightness of an image. These simple adjustments are the basis for any camera including film, DSLR or mirrorless. Understanding these concepts will help when photographing your children, pets, sports, landscapes, wildlife and portraits.

November Classes
This month, we will learn how to compose Color, Structure and Texture in a scene, learn which Camera Settings work the best to achieve the results we are looking for, learn about Shadows and Highlights and how to bring out the details in a scene and learn about Depth of Field and how to Focus the lens for different situations. All of which are important skills for making dramatic images that draw attention.

Winter Series
December Classes
Time to move indoors and check out the Eastman House & Museum in Rochester. A great place to not only learn some photography history, but more about your own camera and how it works. Building on things learned in prior classes the Eastman House offers great historical subjects to photograph using the soft natural light inside. Skills learned here can be used for all sorts of photo projects in your own home during the holidays and upcoming special events with your children.

January Classes
No need to wait until spring to photograph plants and flowers. Again, using natural available light, the Lamberton Conservatory offers a variety of subjects requiring special techniques and different camera settings. These skills can be used when visiting the many Rochester parks with their magnificent trees and blooms.

February Classes
Hundreds of butterflies live at the Butterfly Garden and are waiting to be photographed. With the ingredient of movement and action, capturing a butterfly in flight can be a very tricky experience. Learn the proper camera techniques and settings to capture these little critters in a dramatic image. Skills picked up here can be used for all sorts of action photography including sports events and the larger wildlife found around Western New York.
